What's On

Chinese New Year Crafts at Cath Kidston

King Street

Join Cath Kidston on Saturday 28 January for a special Chinese New Year themed craft workshop. 62 King Street, Manchester, M2 4ND

The Dragon Parade, Chinatown Celebrations & Fireworks

Albert Square, Chinatown

Chinese New Year just wouldn’t be the same without the annual appearance of the city’s spectacular 175-foot dragon.

Chinese New Year Street Food Market

St Ann's Square

A red, richly draped marquee in St Ann’s Square hosts some of the city’s best purveyors of Chinese food and drink during the festival: Yang Sang, Dim Sum Su, Rice Bowl, Mei Mei’s Street Cart and Tampopo.

Lion Dancing

Market Street

Catch the lion’s hourly dance display as this colourful Chinese New Year tradition plays out on Market Street (near Boots).

Live Music Stage

St Ann's Square

The soundtrack to this year’s celebrations come courtesy of a host of local Chinese musicians. Don’t miss Henry Fung, who showcases traditional and contemporary Chinese instruments, and a Saturday programme curated by Manchester’s own Confucius Institute.

Travelling Light Circus

Manchester’s shopping streets come to a show-stopping standstill (well, almost) thanks to the Travelling Light Circus’ roving parade of dancers, drummers, a stiltwalker and a giant rooster. The ten-strong troupe, dressed in red, black and gold, have been brought to the Chinese New Year celebrations in collaboration with the Dance Department at the University of Salford.
