The Lanterns of the Terracotta Warriors

Exhibition, Family
Exchange Square

A show-stopping addition to this year’s Chinese New Year in Manchester: the internationally acclaimed exhibition, The Lanterns of the Terracotta Warriors. This collection of two metre-high, brightly coloured lanterns – forty in total – light up Exchange Square for four nights only.

The exhibition was created by artist Xia Nan and inspired by the famous ‘terracotta army’ uncovered in 1974 in the tomb of China’s First Emperor, but they also tell the 2,000 year-old story of Chinese lantern-making. The Lanterns of the Terracotta Warriors was commissioned for the Beijing Olympics and has subsequently appeared around the world – don’t miss it as it makes its Manchester debut.
